Dept. of Pharma Chemistry

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Undergraduate):

Pharmaceutical chemistry is an interdisciplinary science, which has seen enormous growth in the past decade. Traditionally accepted as a branch of organic chemistry, the subject has reached a tremendous level of complexity today. It involves many aspects like synthesis, isolation, purification and characterization of anticipated organic compounds that can be used in medicine for the treatment and cure of diseases. On the other hand it establishes a link between chemical structure and biological activity. Medicinal Chemist plays a very crucial role in the design and development of selective, potential, non-toxic, new chemical entities which meet all the desired pharmacokinetic
properties. Analytical Chemistry deals with qualitative and quantitative techniques of analysis. The special emphasis is on application in research and in industry.

With the aim to explore and elaborate such fundamentals in a systematic manner undergraduate chemistry department is designed which is comprised of four labs devoted to medicinal chemistry, Analytical chemistry, Organic chemistry, Biochemistry and inorganic pharmaceutical chemistry. Each laboratory is well equipped with state of the art instruments to give hands on experience to the students.

Thirst areas of the department:

1. Synthesis, characterization and biological evaluation of novel chemical entities.

2. Drug design, molecular modeling, QSAR studies on novel chemical entities.

3. Analytical methods development of API / dosage forms.

Sophisticated instruments present in department:

  1. HPLC
  2. HPTLC
  3. UV-Visible spectrophotometer
  4. IR spectrometer
  5. Microwave synthesizer
  6. Micro plate Elisa reader
  7. LC-MS

Industrial collaboration:

Department has MoU with Melzer chemicals, Kurkumbh.
